Visa in your Passport is different than your "Visa Status"

The "entry" visa stamp which you apply for at the US consulate in order to get into the US (except for Canadians) is ONLY used for entering the US. Once you are here, you are allowed to stay here even after the entry visa in your passport expires, as long as you are maintaining VALID legal status—meaning you are following the rules for your particular visa status.
