Then use your experience to help welcome new international students to Cornell!
PREPARE is the International Undergraduate Pre-Orientation program, coordinated through the International Students & Scholars Office (ISSO). It is a four-day intensive program, where participants and volunteers have the opportunity to meet one another and help each other acclimate to life at Cornell. Each day, there are workshops on topics such as academic success, practical living, and health and safety. Volunteers lead groups of students to program events and assist with workshops, accompany new students to the shopping mall, and socialize at events such as sports night, international talent show, and more.
Who Participants in PREPARE? Over 250 new students, plus 60 volunteers will participate in PREPARE.
Role of Volunteers: Volunteers are crucially important, and are expected to attend all events throughout the program. They may not be Orientation Leaders in the new student orientation which begins on August 18, as conflicts of time and commitment arise due to training, etc.
Dates: PREPARE 2017 will run from August 14-17, with a mandatory volunteer training session on August 12-13.
Volunteers who have on-campus assignments for the fall will be allowed to move into their rooms beginning on August 11 (starting at 8 am). Students who will be living off-campus must make their own arrangements with their landlord.
Volunteers can sign up online by clicking the volunteer sign up link on the left side of this page, and completing the registration form. Apply early as the 60 available spots will be filled quickly. The ISSO will confirm your enrollment as a volunteer via email. Over the summer, the PREPARE student coordinators will also provide additional information on volunteer responsibilities and the mandatory training on August 12 and 13.
Please let us know as soon as possible if you are unable to volunteer by sending an email to email@example.com so that we can contact another student from the volunteer waiting list. This is critical as each volunteer will be a mentor for a specific number of new students and we do not want to be short on volunteers.
Thank you and we look forward to working with you at PREPARE 2017!
