Who is eligible for PREPARE?

PREPARE is open to all new international freshmen, transfer and undergraduate exchange students. U.S. students who have been living abroad and would like extra time to adjust are also welcome. Graduate students are not eligible to participate in PREPARE, and instead are invited to attend the International Graduate and Professional Student Orientation on Saturday, August 19, 2017.

How do I sign up? What is the cost for PREPARE?

Students will be required to register online to participate in PREPARE 2017. The online registration form will go live in the beginning of April, 2017. The deadline to register for PREPARE is July 1, 2017.

To register, please complete the PREPARE registration form by July 1, 2017. Upon submitting your registration, you will receive an automatic email confirmation. If you do not receive this confirmation, please contact prepare@cornell.edu.

The total cost for PREPARE participants living on-campus during the academic year is $380 which covers all activities, meals and housing during the four days of PREPARE. For those participants living off-campus during the academic year, the $160 housing fee is eliminated, and the cost is $220. The charge for PREPARE will appear on your Cornell bursar account in July.

In June, our PREPARE student coordinators will send you a welcome email, and provide you with an online survey so that we can collect your arrival information and arrange your local transportation to the Cornell campus. Please visit our PREPARE FAQ page for further information on travel to Ithaca.

Where will I stay?

PREPARE participants will be allowed to move into their on-campus housing on Monday, August 14. NOTE: Non-participants who did not register for PREPARE who arrive early on their own, will NOT under any circumstances be allowed to move into university housing until 9:00 am Friday morning, August 18, when Residence Halls officially open.

What about my family members?

The activities of PREPARE are designed for students, who will be quite busy during the program. We will, however, provide parents with information about activities and sight-seeing in Ithaca and the surrounding areas. We suggest that parents make their arrangements for their lodging at Ithaca area hotels and motels as soon as possible, since room availability may become limited. To arrange accommodations in the Ithaca area, please see VisitIthaca.com.
