About ISSO

Welcome to all international students, scholars and their families. The ISSO staff hopes that you will enjoy your stay at Cornell and that you will use the resources of our office whenever necessary to resolve your problems and concerns or to enhance your experience. Elsewhere on this web site are descriptions of programs and services we offer, plus short biographies of our staff.

The mission of our office, which was founded in 1936, is to assist individual international students and foreign academic staff and their families by advising them concerning federal immigration, tax and labor regulations, and by providing counseling on personal, academic and cultural matters. In addition, we try to promote cross-cultural awareness in the Cornell community through educational programming, such as orientation, cultural adjustment, and cross-cultural communication. Finally, our goal is to serve as an information service for the Cornell, Ithaca, and surrounding communities; and in general to promote the benefits of international educational exchange.

It is our hope that you find our staff to be accessible and friendly. We may be reached by telephone or e-mail or by personal appointment. In addition, we always have an advisor-on-call who is available for walk-in service. Our office environment is generally informal and you may feel free to call our staff by our first names.

No matter how long or short your stay at Cornell, we wish you the best and encourage you to utilize our services. We look forward to working with you.
